Our neighbourhood Beechwood Produce Stand has been running for 8 seasons now, providing our community with fresh, locally grown produce throughout the summer months. The stand is run by a large group of committed volunteers from school aged kids to senior citizens. Every Wednesday afternoon we transform the front lawn of our recreation centre on Shakespeare Drive into a “village square” where neighbours can come not only to buy fresh fruits and vegetables but to meet and catch up with their neighbours. The moneys raised at the stand are given to our local schools and charities to help fund their activities. This year we are pleased once again to be able to provide both Centennial and Keatsway Schools with $500 each to support their fundraising for activities like Nutrition for Learning or for students in need. Many of our own children went to these schools and its our small way of saying thank you for the tremendous education they obtained there. We are looking forward to our 9th season next summer. Sincerely, Steve Singer and Dolores Penner, Co-Stand Convenors.
