June 19th, 2020
It’s hard to believe that this week marks the twelfth week of distance learning in the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB). As we prepare for the final days of the school year, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the efforts of all of our students, their families and our staff, as you have all navigated this unprecedented time.
Today, the Ontario government released its safety plan for the resumption of class for the 2020-21 school year, outlining scenarios for how students, teachers and staff can safely return to classrooms in September. The decision to return to the normal school day routine will continue to be based on medical advice and we will plan for alternative scenarios that may need to be implemented in September depending on the province’s COVID-19 situation. We are committed to keeping you informed as we learn more and gain a clearer understanding of what our next school year will look like.
As we enter the last few days of the school year, the entire WRDSB is excited to celebrate the achievements of all of our students, from our Kindergarten to Grade 12 graduates. In the coming days, keep your eyes and ears open for signs of our celebration on our schools and throughout the community and if you spot one, be sure to share it on social media using the hashtag #WRDSBgrad and tag @wrdsb on Twitter and Facebook, or @wr_dsb on Instagram.
Reopening Our Child Care Centres
On June 9, the Minister of Education announced that Child Care Centres may reopen as part of the Framework for Re-Opening Our Province: Stage 2. The WRDSB is committed to this phased approach and ensuring our facilities are safe and ready for reentry. We recognize that supporting child care and the early years sector is crucial to allow families to return to work. Check out this recent post on our website for more information on this process.
We want to hear from you
As school closures and distance learning continue, we are working hard to find ways to continue to support you and ensure you’re getting the information you need. To help us, we invite you to fill out this survey. We look forward to compiling the data and will share back what we’ve heard from you along with the next steps.
WRDSB@Home
As part of our ongoing efforts to support and improve the distance learning experience for our students and their families, new at-home activities focused on a variety of subjects continue to be added every day during the week.
Tech@Home
We are proud to announce the launch of the iPad Support site on WRDSB Tech@Home. This is the latest addition to the resources for students, families and staff on Tech@Home and offers self-serve, user-friendly resources to assist with troubleshooting common issues encountered with iPads.
