An Update for CAT !

1) COVID- related updates:  There has still been no positive cases of COVID in the Centennial community.  Awesome!  But as cases rise in Ontario, let’s remember that now is NOT the time to relax.  Some students have had to be spoken to about keeping their masks on on the bus.  As I’m sure you would agree with, the school board can refuse to allow ridership if COVID rules are not adhered to.  We remind students EVERY DAY to keep their distance while in their cohorts outside.  I have to let you know that this is a daily struggle for us.  Centennial Adult Team, if you could remind your kids that you expect that they will keep their distance even outside, that would be great!
2) Use of Chromebooks / Appropriate Digital Citizenship:   You are aware of the greater access your children have to the internet via the chromebooks this year.  Some parents may assume that there are extreme controls on access in a school, but in reality it is a very difficult thing to restrict the flow of some sites, yet keep an abundance of useful access going.  Long story short, your child may be sneaking on to game sites or perhaps engaging in social media chats when they should not.  We monitor the kids of course, but sometimes a student has lost the use of their chromebook for a period of time because of inappropriate use.    As regards kids this age and social media, here is a great article which a parent kindly shared with me recently, which I am sharing on to you.

3) Remembrance Day Online “Virtual” Assembly:   After first break tomorrow,  at 11:15, November 11, we will be sharing in a solemn virtual assembly.   We will take the time to remember the sacrifice that young men and women made to our country in the time of war.   I will share this link with you when it is ready to broadcast.
Take care everyone!
