As we have throughout the pandemic, the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) follows the advice of Region of Waterloo Public Health. Due to the increased spread of COVID-19 in our community at the moment, public health is recommending we use all the tools at our disposal to maximize our layers of protection to reduce the risk of severe illness and help protect our health care system. We appreciate your support in helping us reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our schools.
Masking Indoors
Due to the rising number of cases in our schools among students and staff, the WRDSB is strongly recommending that all staff, students and visitors wear a mask when indoors at school. If staff or students do not have a mask available to them, their school can provide one.
Mandatory Masking Situations
There are certain situations where staff and students are required to wear a mask at school. Please read and follow the guidelines outlined on the last page of the COVID-19 school and child care screening tool regarding when masks are required.
Illness Screening
- Students and staff should continue to use the COVID-19 school and child care screening tool to self-screen each day before attending school.
- Please stay home if you are feeling ill.
Accessing Rapid Antigen Tests
- Staff and students can obtain free Rapid Antigen Test kits via participating community locations. Please see https://covid-19.ontario.ca/rapid-test-locator to find a location near you.
Vaccination
- Region of Waterloo Public Health recommends that residents stay up-to-date with all recommended doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
- For anyone seeking to receive a first, second or booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, please visit regionofwaterloo.ca/GetaVaccine.
COVID-19 Reporting
To help keep families informed, school principals are providing daily reports to their school communities to let them know:
- the number of COVID-19 cases reported at school that day; and
- what classrooms are affected
If you do not receive a report, it means there were no COVID-19 cases reported at your school that day.
