March 31 is the International Day of Transgender Visibility. This is an opportunity to celebrate two spirit, transgender, gender nonconforming and nonbinary people. It is also a chance to raise awareness of the discrimination faced by trans people worldwide.

Trans-identifying people face ongoing pressure to change or conform in order to validate their identities. Over the past year, there has been an increase in anti-trans hate and violence in schools, communities, workplaces and wider society, as efforts persist to limit the right of trans people to exist equally and freely.

We must all continue to advocate with love and solidarity alongside the trans community so they may realize full and free lives.

Moving to Action

The International Day of Transgender Visibility 2023 is an opportunity to think and act in ways that make WRDSB schools trans-inclusive spaces. We all play an important part in a safe and inclusive Waterloo Region.

The WRDSB works to create school communities where all students, staff and families experience a sense of belonging, safety and inclusion. WRDSB wants our entire community to know: You are enough, just as you are.
