We want our schools to be safe, inclusive and supportive learning environments that enhance and promote mental health and well-being for our students – each and every one.
Suicide touches everyone in our school communities. World Suicide Prevention Day is September 10, and our educators and staff are committed to reducing the risk of suicide in our school communities.
Our Administrative Procedure – Response to Suicidal Ideation, Self-Injury and Suicide Attempt of Students, outlines the response our staff take and our duty to report behaviours and thoughts related to suicide that our students and staff may express or experience. Staff, students, families and community members have participated in safeTALK workshops, facilitated by our staff, for the past five years. SsafeTALK is a workshop designed to teach staff and educators to recognize signs of suicide, how to communicate with people at risk and connect them to resources and supports.
On this World Suicide Prevention Day, we want our school communities to know we support them, their mental health and their well-being.
If you or someone you know need help, the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council have resources and supports available.
